This Week From The Bench…
Beating Auburn was a feel good win because you have to love it when Auburn is more messed up than the Hogs.
After the supposed moral victory last week in only allowing Florida to score 38 on the Hogs at home, the win against the Tigers was real. Auburn was a good team and just a few weeks removed from the top 10, but it is now a team that has lost on back-to-back weekends to Vanderbilt and now Arkansas. After firing their offensive coordinator, they are definitely reeling.
The Razorbloggers have their Texas Preview up. Hurricane Ike might make an appearance at Saturday’s Game. Here’s Audio from Bobby Petrino’s Monday Press Conference. UA freshman Ethan Tracy made his Razorback debut memorable leading the men’s golf team to victory while earning medalist honors at the Maryland Intercollegiate in Cambridge, Md., Sunday. The Women’s Soccer team improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating Samford 1-0 in double overtime Sunday.
This Week From The Bench…
I don’t know how they do it in Conference USA, but running the ball 13 times a game in the SEC is going to get this Razorback team beat a lot. In this instance, it led to poor clock management against an inferior opponent that had a decent rushing game and dictated clock all night. An inferior team can often keep a game close with a running attack and solid kicking game, and the Leathernecks did that all night.
I think the Expats say it best…Bullet Dodged. Here’s the official recap, stats, notes, and postgame quotes. A couple of liveblogs were going on during tonights game…Slopnet, ArkansasRazorbacks.com, and AS360. That second liveblog also has a nice photo of the, spoiler no more, hog at midfield (see after the jump). The liveblogger at the official site is Bill Smith with media relations. He has a nice childhood story posted about the logo. Not only did they debut the hog at midfield they busted out in a red on red uniform. I’ll keep my comments to myself on this outfit (see pic below as well).

The women’s soccer team falls to 1-1 on the year after a loss to Tulsa (1-0) in their home opener. The Women’s Volleyball team lost their first two games of the season at The Colorado State Tournament…0-3 to Colorado St. and 0-3 to Eastern Washington.
They played Denver tonight which I’ll update with a post later since I can’t find a final on that contest. UPDATE: They Lost to Denver
Pics are below…
ESPN has bought the TV rights to almost the entire SEC for $2.25 BILLION. This doubles the income for each school from last years deals with their TV partners. The deal kills the idea of an SEC channel and also kills the SEC’s relationship with Raycom/Lincoln Financial/Jefferson Pilot Sports. Is Mustain a bust for the Trojans? The Expats sum up Patrick Beverly’s situation nicely. They’ve also been chosen to participate in the SEC Power Poll (congrats) and have their preseason Coaches Poll up. Arkansas is still 6th as the Fulmer Cup gets close to naming it’s champion. The boys at the Morning News’ Hog Blog have unleashed a redesign. ESPN’s Chris Low is in Fayetteville to cover the Hogs during his tour of the conference.
KATV has sold the Media Rights (ARSN) to the Arkansas Razorbacks to ISP Sports. The deal guarantees the UA Athletics Dept. $73 Million over the next ten years. This Week From the Bench…
The last time that I attended media days for the Arkansas Razorbacks was in 1999. I have spent that week ever since going to the Gulf of Mexico, and in particular Orange Beach, Ala., to get the thoughts of opposing fans from around the SEC. Sure SEC media days has its own poll of how the experts think everyone is going to do, but if you have met many in the media including myself, you know their predictions are no more valid than your own except that it ends up in print.
I didn’t have time to update the Slobberin’ story to a full Trough so I’ve got some news to share…
Brandon Lampkin, a reserve defensive tackle, was taken to a hospital by ambulance after a neck injury during Friday’s practice, the first with pads this season. He was released Friday night and is in good condition. His Football status is unknown at this time. QB Ryan Mallett is profiled by the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. SI has the Hogs ranked 69th out of 119 FBS schools (via Expats). The Hogs are lumped in with “The Dregs” in an AOL Fanhouse preview. AOL Fanhouse also recaps the 07 SEC season and called Houston Nutt the biggest fraud. Auburn and Arkansas are joining the Spread revolution in the SEC. I didn’t link to this earlier this week but here’s the razorblogger wrapup of Media Day.
Veronica Campbell-Brown became the first Razorback in history to be chose to carry their country’s flag at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games (She carried Jamaica’s Flag). Former Hog Mitch Mustain got a break when USC starting QB Mark Sanchez injured his kneecap and will probably miss the season opener at Virginia. Mustain will compete for the starting spot against Aaron Corp for the start.
Darren McFadden had 48 yards on 12 carries during Oakland’s win over San Francisco last night. Marcus Monk had a catch for 14 yards in his debut for the Chicago Bears on Thursday. Vickiel Vaughn signed a deal with the Denver Broncos. Matt Jones was formally charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) Friday. The amount of cocaine he allegedly had with him could have opened him up to a charge of possesion with intent to deliver.
Finally, two fun links for you. I stumbled across this site that has some great Razorback desktop wallpapers…Razorhack.org (for the wallpaper use this link). Most of you have probably see this already but, “Can you pass the Darren McFadden Test?” after the jump…

Bobby Petrino has announced that linebacker Freddy Burton and wide receiver Marques Wade will each be suspended for the first two games of the 2008 after both men had DUI arrests. The sixth(!) hog in trouble with the law is Earnest Mitchell. He was pulled over and cited for a misdemeanor charge of possession of an instrument of crime. We’re now #6 in the EDSBS Fulmer Cup standings. The Fulmer Cup is a point system to determine the most unlawful team in college football, named after Tennessee’s Phillip Fulmer. Speaking of aleged law breakers, Matt Jones appears to be trying to turn things around in Jacksonville.
Bobby Petrino will be on Football Saturdays in the South this coming weekend. Don’t expect any thing on the arrests the interview was shot during spring practice. Here’s an interview/season preview with former hog and Little Rock radio personality David Bazzel. AS360 profiles the Voice of the Razorbacks En Español Carlos Chicas. And Raycom (formerly Lincoln/Jefferson Pilot Financial) Sports, who televise regional SEC games during football and basketball season, are upgrading their telecasts to HD. I’m linking to this only for the humorous commentary about Raycom and the 3 Daves. I’ve forgotten to mention that the “Lady Razorbacks” are no more. AD Jeff Long, now head of a combined athletic dept., wants everyone to be called “Razorbacks”.
On the Olympic Front arkansasrazorbacks.com is now posting spotlights on former Hogs headed to Beijing. They’re starting with Track Hogs Alistair Cragg and Nicole Teter.
