ULM Gameday Trough

The Morning News previews the ULM game. AS360 makes a prediction. The Expats do Research. Want to pay $35 to watch the game? Here’s ordering info. The Morning News sits down with Freshman FS Elton Ford. Arkansas has self-reported 2 minor violations in the football program, beyond the Michael Smith’s Textbook violation, to the NCAA since March. Former Member of the Springdale Five, Andrew Norman is transferring back to Arkansas from Tulsa and will join the team as a walk-on. He’ll sit a year and have two years of eligibility remaining. I usually don’t do a lot of recruiting news, but, the hogs have commitments from 2 of ESPN’s top 10 Cornerbacks for this recruiting class.

Former Hog Jason Peters has ended his holdout and has reported to the Buffalo Bills. Darren McFadden says “It’s strictly Raiders and Razorbacks for me!“. One of the Expats will be in attendance for Monday Nights Raiders (D-Mac) Vs. Broncos (Hillis) matchup. He promises a full report.

The End of June Trough

I’ve been slightly lazy in updating recently so there is some stuff to catch up on…

Backup Linebacker Freddy Burton was arrested for DUI this morning. Former Hog Tyson Gay qualified for the US Olympic squad in the 100m. Arkansas Hired Northern Iowa’s Chris Bucknam as the new Track and Field and Cross Country coach replacing legend John McDonnell. Sonny Weems was drafted by Chicago then traded to Denver. Steven Hill has signed a contract to play with Portland’s summer league team.
John Pelphrey auctioned off a round of golf with himself, Bobby Petrino, and LPGAer and former ladyback Stacy Lewis. It went for $5,100. Speaking of Stacy Lewis, she finished tied for 3rd at her first LPGA event as a pro…the US Women’s Open. Petrino’s not a big talker. But The Hog Blogger knows what he’s getting into with Bobby. The Razorbloggers have been counting down the best football games of ’07 (with video)…my fav’s South Carolina and LSU. AOL fanhouse has a story up about if College Football teams were comedians…Arkansas would be Larry the Cable Guy. Which lead me to two other such lists…Rappers-Kool Keith…and Simpsons Characters-Groundskeeper Willie.

Finally two stories unrelated to the Hogs…So Long to Deadspin’s Will Leitch, I echo what the Expats wrote…and RIP to UGA VI.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that today is the last day on Nolan Richardson’s Contract with the UA and it’s also Chancellor John White’s last day on the job.

Walk-Off Trough

In case you haven’t heard, the Diamond Hogs recaptured 8th place in the SEC standings with a sweep of #13 South Carolina. The weekend Series at Baum started with a bang when Freshman Jacob House hit a 1-0 pitch into the visiting bleachers for a walk-off grand slam, giving the Hogs a 12-11 win Friday Night. Here’s Video. That powered the Hogs to the sweep with finals of 6-3 Saturday and 4-2. The Hogs Followed that up with a win over Mississippi Valley St. 12-3. The Hogs have a RPI of 16 and are still projected to make a NCAA Regional. AS360 says the season hinges on the final SEC series of the year, at Mississippi St. Here’s a look at team leader Logan Forsythe.

The Ladyback Softball team has been selected to the NCAA Tournament. The Ladyback Tennis team has made the Sweet Sixteen. The Ladyback Golfers have advanced out of their regional to the NCAA Championships. The Men’s Golf team looks to do the same.

Finally one of my favorite sites, the one who’s disappearance prompted me to start the Hawg Blawg, has reappeared. The Slop is now being hosted at ARSN online. I won’t stop posting although they probably do a better job of what I aim to do. I just wanted to take a second to thank all of you for coming here and keeping me company. I really appreciate it. GO HOGS!

The Trough

I’m going to play catch up with a few links I missed from earlier in the week that I was too sick to post on at the time.

Mid-Week Trough

I’m on vacation so I’ve sorta neglected the ole’ blog. So, this will be a big one…

Charles Thomas, Sonny Weems, Patrick Beverley, and Steven Hill were named to the Coaches All-SEC teams on Wednesday. The possible QB controversy I mentioned this weekend…it’s not happening. AS360 profiles Chuck Barrett. A recruiting breakdown for Nutt from ’03 to ’07. Over the Summer Patrick Beverley has changed his look and his game. Weston Dacus didn’t practice Wednesday, he needed the rest. Most have heard by now that Ben Cleveland wasn’t allowed on the sideline for Saturday’s Game…Here’s the story. Jillian Rosen, of the #10 Ladyback Cross Country team, was named SEC Freshman of the Year.
