The Morning News sits down with Freshman FS Elton Ford. Arkansas has self-reported 2 minor violations in the football program, beyond the Michael Smith’s Textbook violation, to the NCAA since March. Former Member of the Springdale Five, Andrew Norman is transferring back to Arkansas from Tulsa and will join the team as a walk-on. He’ll sit a year and have two years of eligibility remaining. I usually don’t do a lot of recruiting news, but, the hogs have commitments from 2 of ESPN’s top 10 Cornerbacks for this recruiting class.
Former Hog Jason Peters has ended his holdout and has reported to the Buffalo Bills. Darren McFadden says “It’s strictly Raiders and Razorbacks for me!“. One of the Expats will be in attendance for Monday Nights Raiders (D-Mac) Vs. Broncos (Hillis) matchup. He promises a full report.

The Women’s Basketball Schedule has been Released. A pair of Tennis Hogs grab preseason rankings. Arkansas Volleyball loses a tight one at Georgia Tech. Arkansas Women’s Soccer improves to 3-1 on the season after shutting out Jacksonville St. 4-0. Finally, for the second time in as many seasons, Arkansas Razorback sophomore Catherine White won the 4K race at the Arkansas Dual.
Ronnie Brewer makes a gift to the Fulbright College. DMac is looking forward to his season opener against the Denver Broncos. Speaking of Denver, Peyton Hillis has been named their starting Fullback!

Auburn shut them out again this week…Will history repeat itself?
The Women’s Soccer team defeated Oral Roberts to improve to 2-1 on the season. Finally, Former Hog Brett Goode has made the Packers as a long snapper.
The Hogs are extending their contract with War Memorial Stadium another 2 years till 2016. The University responded to a FOIA request with an admission of 6 self-reported secondary NCAA rules violations in the basketball program involving Text messaging, improper contact with recruits, and an improper official visit. The football team is in game week mode. Freshman QB Tyler Wilson is competing for the backup QB spot. ESPN’s Chris Low visited Fayetteville and logs a couple of reports. Hog WR Marques Wade was fined and ordered to complete 16 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and careless driving. Former Hog Freddie Fairchild has been sentenced to 120 days in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to beating his girlfriend and detaining her against her will. Hog Golfer Andrew Landry was defeated in the round of 16 at the US Amateur Championship. Former Hog Veronica Campbell-Brown brought home her second gold medal in the 200 meters for Jamaica. The Razorbloggers have their Preseason Poll posted. The Hog fanbase is ranked the 5th most obnoxious in the SEC by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Patrick Beverly won’t be playing for the Hogs this season. Reports say it involves to academics.
Brandon Lampkin, a reserve defensive tackle, was taken to a hospital by ambulance after a neck injury during Friday’s practice, the first with pads this season. He was released Friday night and is in good condition. His Football status is unknown at this time. QB Ryan Mallett is profiled by the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. SI has the Hogs ranked 69th out of 119 FBS schools (via Expats). The Hogs are lumped in with “The Dregs” in an AOL Fanhouse preview. AOL Fanhouse also recaps the 07 SEC season and called Houston Nutt the biggest fraud. Auburn and Arkansas are joining the Spread revolution in the SEC. I didn’t link to this earlier this week but here’s the razorblogger wrapup of Media Day.
Veronica Campbell-Brown became the first Razorback in history to be chose to carry their country’s flag at the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games (She carried Jamaica’s Flag). Former Hog Mitch Mustain got a break when USC starting QB Mark Sanchez injured his kneecap and will probably miss the season opener at Virginia. Mustain will compete for the starting spot against Aaron Corp for the start.
Darren McFadden had 48 yards on 12 carries during Oakland’s win over San Francisco last night. Marcus Monk had a catch for 14 yards in his debut for the Chicago Bears on Thursday. Vickiel Vaughn signed a deal with the Denver Broncos. Matt Jones was formally charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) Friday. The amount of cocaine he allegedly had with him could have opened him up to a charge of possesion with intent to deliver.

As most of you probably know, former Arkansas QB and current Jacksonville Jaguar Wide Receiver Matt Jones was arrested on a count of Felony possession of a controlled substance (Cocaine) this Morning. Not as widely mentioned is that he was arrested with former Hog tight end Jared Hicks. The Razorbloggers/Slophouse/TMN’s Hog Blog have it covered. LB Wendel Davis was arrested on June 28th. He was arrested after an altercation at a stop light with a person he has a history with.
I’ve reported previously that the University is merging the Men’s and Women’s Athletic Departments. The first sign of that is the merging of the UA’s athletic websites, Hogwired and Ladybacks.com, into ArkansasRazorbacks.com. It opens on July 21st. KATV is looking at the 16 most memorable moments since the Hogs joined the SEC…Here are the Expats’ choices.
Levan Patsatsia is going to transfer from the Hog Hoop squad. Patrick Beverley impressed King LeBron James and New Orleans’s Chris Paul in a pickup game.Former Hog Darian Townes has made the Sacramento Kings Summer League Team. Some Diamond Hogs are heating up Summer Leagues. Tyson Gay has a mild muscle strain in his leg. He pulled up lame in a quarterfinal heat for the 200 meters at the US Olympic Trials. He was the defending world champ in the event. Felix Jones and Darren McFadden have been ranked as two of the best NFL running backs.

Bobby Petrino has been being reminded of the tough schedule he has in front of his Hogs (the second toughest in the nation). Alex Tejada hurt his knee during a morning run this week, he shouldn’t miss any preseason practice. Petrino opposes an early signing period for football. Petrino’s decision was one of the hardest of his life…Atlantans don’t buy it. The Expats have a wrapup of quotes from Petrino at the SEC spring meetings. The Texas game has been picked up by ABC sports. Houston Nutt thought he was going to be Arkansas’ AD…here’s a story with video from his recent trip to LR for their LR Rebel Club meeting. D-Mac went to the hall of fame and is coming close to signing with the Raiders. A SF Chronicle reporter was in town to do a piece on Darren. WR Matt Jones continues to be a lighting rod for the Jags. Jason Peters has been missing voluntary workouts hoping for a new contract. DE Jamaal Anderson, who has a deaf father, has been spending time at Atlanta’s school for the deaf. The Expats check in on Bear WR Marcus Monk.
Well uninspired is the word most would use for the final regular season SEC series for the Diamond Hogs. They lost the series 2 games to 1 and finished the conference season 1/2 game out of 8th place in the final SEC standings…and out of the SEC tournament. The Finals from the weekend set are…

Rivals has a photo journal of the final game. The Hogs are currently hosting Western Illinois at Baum. Whole Hog Sports is calling it a Must Win. The hogs look to bolster their chances to get into an NCAA Regional. Their RPI hasn’t been updated but this link will update later tonight. Turning to other spring sports…
The Men Track Hogs won the SEC Outdoor Track & Field title this weekend, John McDonnell’s last as head coach. The search for his replacement is going at a “steady” pace. Ladyback Tracksters finished third at the meet. The Ladyback Tennis Team finished the season ranked 17th this season after being eliminated in the Elite Eight. It was arguably the best season in school history. The Ladyback Softball team finished it’s season with a loss in the NCAA Regionals to Oregon. Ladyback Miranda Dixon was named to the Louisville Slugger / National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Region team. The Mens Golf Team Finished in 19th place at the NCAA Regional this weekend. The Ladyback Golfers start their Regional tomorrow.
College Football News have their WAAAY early bowl predictions up (Hogs V. Nebraska in Indy Bowl). Razorback Hoopster Michael Sanchez has moved from the bench to a starting role for the Reach USA squad in China. The Expats dip into the SI archives to find a Hog football team in turmoil from 1988.
In case you haven’t heard, the Diamond Hogs recaptured 8th place in the SEC standings with a sweep of #13 South Carolina. The weekend Series at Baum started with a bang when Freshman Jacob House hit a 1-0 pitch into the visiting bleachers for a walk-off grand slam, giving the Hogs a 12-11 win Friday Night. Here’s Video. That powered the Hogs to the sweep with finals of 6-3 Saturday and 4-2. The Hogs Followed that up with a win over Mississippi Valley St. 12-3. The Hogs have a RPI of 16 and are still projected to make a NCAA Regional. AS360 says the season hinges on the final SEC series of the year, at Mississippi St. Here’s a look at team leader Logan Forsythe.

The Ladyback Softball team has been selected to the NCAA Tournament. The Ladyback Tennis team has made the Sweet Sixteen. The Ladyback Golfers have advanced out of their regional to the NCAA Championships. The Men’s Golf team looks to do the same.
Finally one of my favorite sites, the one who’s disappearance prompted me to start the Hawg Blawg, has reappeared. The Slop is now being hosted at ARSN online. The Diamond Hogs paid tribute to former PA announcer Larry Shank this past Sunday. He died last year after a two year battle with cancer and was the PA man from 1989 to 2007. Despite losing this weekends series to the Tide (look below) the Hogs are being forecast to make an NCAA regional and have a RPI of 26 (as I write this). Nolan Richardson was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame, along w/Billy Packer. Which leads to another sign the relationship between Richardson and the UA is on the mend. Guard Ben Hansbrough, UNC Tarheel Tyler Hansbrough’s little brother, has been granted his release from Mississippi St. and is interested in the Hogs. Former Lady’back Lauren Ervin was selected in the 3rd round of the WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun. The Diamond Hogs Continue to struggle. After winning Last Saturday, 5-4, to tie the series with Auburn, they lost it in heartbreaking fashion 12-10 in 10 innings. Then Oral Roberts came in and thumped the hogs 9-4 at Baum. They head to Florida this weekend.
The Nationally Ranked (from #12 to #8 depending on the poll) Lady’Back linksters head to the Bryan National in Browns Summit, N. C., the final event of the 2008 season. The No. 11 Gym’Backs heads to Duluth, Ga., site of Saturday’s 2008 SEC Gymnastics Championships. The Lady’Back Tennis Squad jumped nine spots to #13 nationally and junior Ela Kaluder was honored as the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week. The Lady’Back Softball team won the annual Border War Tournament Wednesday. Lady’Back Pole Vaulter Sarah Landau was named SEC Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday while the Lady’Back Track & Field team was ranked No. 9 in the outdoor preseason rankings Wednesday.
