As most of you probably know, former Arkansas QB and current Jacksonville Jaguar Wide Receiver Matt Jones was arrested on a count of Felony possession of a controlled substance (Cocaine) this Morning. Not as widely mentioned is that he was arrested with former Hog tight end Jared Hicks. The Razorbloggers/Slophouse/TMN’s Hog Blog have it covered. LB Wendel Davis was arrested on June 28th. He was arrested after an altercation at a stop light with a person he has a history with.
I’ve reported previously that the University is merging the Men’s and Women’s Athletic Departments. The first sign of that is the merging of the UA’s athletic websites, Hogwired and Ladybacks.com, into ArkansasRazorbacks.com. It opens on July 21st. I’ve been slightly lazy in updating recently so there is some stuff to catch up on…
Backup Linebacker Freddy Burton was arrested for DUI this morning. Former Hog Tyson Gay qualified for the US Olympic squad in the 100m. Arkansas Hired Northern Iowa’s Chris Bucknam as the new Track and Field and Cross Country coach replacing legend John McDonnell. Sonny Weems was drafted by Chicago then traded to Denver. Steven Hill has signed a contract to play with Portland’s summer league team.
John Pelphrey auctioned off a round of golf with himself, Bobby Petrino, and LPGAer and former ladyback Stacy Lewis. It went for $5,100. Speaking of Stacy Lewis, she finished tied for 3rd at her first LPGA event as a pro…the US Women’s Open. Petrino’s not a big talker. But The Hog Blogger knows what he’s getting into with Bobby. The Razorbloggers have been counting down the best football games of ’07 (with video)…my fav’s South Carolina and LSU. AOL fanhouse has a story up about if College Football teams were comedians…Arkansas would be Larry the Cable Guy. Bobby Petrino has been being reminded of the tough schedule he has in front of his Hogs (the second toughest in the nation). Alex Tejada hurt his knee during a morning run this week, he shouldn’t miss any preseason practice. Petrino opposes an early signing period for football. Petrino’s decision was one of the hardest of his life…Atlantans don’t buy it. The Expats have a wrapup of quotes from Petrino at the SEC spring meetings. D-Mac went to the hall of fame and is coming close to signing with the Raiders. A SF Chronicle reporter was in town to do a piece on Darren. WR Matt Jones continues to be a lighting rod for the Jags. Jason Peters has been missing voluntary workouts hoping for a new contract. DE Jamaal Anderson, who has a deaf father, has been spending time at Atlanta’s school for the deaf. Nolan Richardson was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame, along w/Billy Packer. Which leads to another sign the relationship between Richardson and the UA is on the mend. Guard Ben Hansbrough, UNC Tarheel Tyler Hansbrough’s little brother, has been granted his release from Mississippi St. and is interested in the Hogs. Former Lady’back Lauren Ervin was selected in the 3rd round of the WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun. The Diamond Hogs Continue to struggle. After winning Last Saturday, 5-4, to tie the series with Auburn, they lost it in heartbreaking fashion 12-10 in 10 innings. Then Oral Roberts came in and thumped the hogs 9-4 at Baum. They head to Florida this weekend.

In non hoops news…the Diamond Hogs have split the first two in their series with LSU this weekend…Friday LSU-8 UA-7 Saturday UA-14 LSU-13. The rubber game is this afternoon at 1pm on Cox Sports (CST). I saw this a while back but never linked to it so…QB Ryan Mallet’s request to have the NCAA transfer rule of sitting out a year be dropped will not be granted sources close to the program are saying. Finally the No. 33 Hog tennis squad dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 10 Tennessee on Friday.

Pelphrey’s Hogs Beat Northwestern State 90-59 Wednesday. They’ll be playing Appalachian St. Saturday in N.Little Rock. Pelphrey told the players they’re plans for a Christmas at home with their families depends on this win. Reggie might be headed to Texas A&M. Patrick Beverley is accused of being a baby’s daddy. Ben Cleveland is Happy with Petrino. McFadden is an International Star. Three former hogs have made the NFL Pro Bowl. All the Hogs are eligible for the Cotton Bowl and the kickers had a pressure packed practice. Finally a Twist on a Christmas Classic.

The University is pushing fans to vote for the LSU OT int for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Year; They’ll get a $200,000 donation to the scholarship fund if they win. In Hog Hoops…Oklahoma-83 Arkansas-72. Paul Petrino (Bobby’s Brother) was named Offensive Coordinator and Tim Horton is staying on the UA staff. The Ladyback Hoopsters moved to 12-0! McFadden’s NFL decision will wait a little longer. CSTV and KTHV will be reairing the ARK/LSU game (CSTV-Fri/KTHV Saturday night after the SEC title game and the News). Darren McFadden Named to AFCA All-American Team. 4 Hogs Named To Rivals All-American Squads. Jonathan Luigs is 1 of 6 Rimington Trophy finalists. This is the second time he’s been a finalist for the award given the the nations top center. SI’s Stewart Mandel and CBS’s Dennis Dodd think Nutt to Ole Miss is a Bad Idea. Speaking of Nutt the Expats Remind us of Orville Henry’s Thoughts on his hire at Arkansas and Here’s AS360’s idea of a picture worth 3.6 million dollars and a new shirt. Texas A&M and Arkansas are close to signing a 6 to 8 year deal to renew their football rivalry. It’ll be played at the New Cowboys Stadium. Here’s video of Casey Dick’s awesome block during that McFadden Run from Friday. CFN thinks Tebow is “without a doubt” the Heisman winner. Although, they rank the Hogs 18th in the nation.

The Expats look into the Butch Davis rumors…Fanblogs says Davis’ contract with North Carolina has no “out” clause. The Hog Blogger beats me to the punch by posting the “Vote For Ned” video first during FIU week. The media has picked the hoop hawgs to finish first in the west at SEC Media Days.
