FTB:Need to Establish Running Game is Irony In The Extreme

This Week From The Bench…

I don’t know how they do it in Conference USA, but running the ball 13 times a game in the SEC is going to get this Razorback team beat a lot. In this instance, it led to poor clock management against an inferior opponent that had a decent rushing game and dictated clock all night. An inferior team can often keep a game close with a running attack and solid kicking game, and the Leathernecks did that all night.

It’s redicules to make that acsessment off of one game. Petrino take’s what the defense gives, plus what kind of a position the team is in during the game. When your playing from behind the majority of the time, and the defense is stacking the box the majority of the time, daring your QB to beat them, it’s basiclly just a no-brainer. Also our RBs are young without Smith leading the way, and one of them wasn’t quite 100% yet either, so there’s really nothing to that argument. I’ll bet the rest of my season tickets that topic doesn’t stay the same after this Saturday. GO HOGS!!!!!

Let’s not get carried away here. Petrino is in Fayeteville, at least partly, because so much of the fan-base in AR got tired of the 3rd and 4 hand-off-between-the-tackles style of football (I, for one, think that works great as long as it gets the win). Possibly Petrino wanted to see how Dick would do with the game on his shoulders. If that’s the case, I’d say Casey did quite well.

Besides, Michael Smith was suspended for the game. Surely that made a difference! After all, it was only one game…
