FTB:Hurricane Should Not Have Canceled Razorback Game in Austin

This Week From The Bench….

I know the rolled-out explanation was for the security of players and fans. Just like that new fire taco at Taco Bell, I don’t buy it. Austin is very far inland from where Ike hit. I believe other motivations were the cause of the postponement, such as fans not showing up to the game so $8 popcorn couldn’t be sold, hotels not filled, and restaurants like Kerbey Lane not selling stacks of blueberry pancakes as planned.

The Expats have the Hogs last in their SEC Power Poll Ballot.

Welcome To Texas Week!

The Hogs-Tide game has been picked up by Raycom. Joe Adams is the SEC freshman of the week. Casey Dick is the SEC Big Man on Campus. Razorback Central’s Report Card for the ULM game is out. The Razorbloggers have the good, bad and ugly from Saturday.

In non football news…
The coach who inspired Nolan Richardson’s “40 Minutes of Hell” philosophy, Don Haskins, has died. UA freshman Ethan Tracy made his Razorback debut memorable leading the men’s golf team to victory while earning medalist honors at the Maryland Intercollegiate in Cambridge, Md., Sunday. The Women’s Soccer team improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating Samford 1-0 in double overtime Sunday.

FTB:What Game? Tailgating was the Main Event at War Memorial

This Week From The Bench…

Let’s start where the day began. After dire warnings that the War Memorial Golf Course would be a mud pit for the Razorback football game, the predictions did not come to fruition after a deluge from the hurricane-turned-tropical-depression that parked itself over Arkansas. Saturday turned out to be a perfect day for college football and tailgating. Games in Little Rock in early September often turn into a sweating mess, but the temperature for this one was just right.

Postgame Trough

Alex Tejada had a bad game. Jim Harris of AS360 says enjoy this win…they’re won’t be many more this year. Want to relive the magic of the comeback…I wouldn’t either but if you do here’s 3 live blogs…Official Site, AS360, Slophouse. Finally, the Razorbloggers have their roundup posted (it’s continuously updated).

Oh yeah, the Women’s Volleyball team lost to #25 Michigan.

P.S. Arkansas St. showed that last weeks win over Texas A&M wasn’t a fluke with a 83-10 stomping of Texas Southern.

Arkansas-28 ULM-27

Two big notes…The 4 and 1 fake to Michael Smith/bomb to Chris Gragg to the ULM 7-WOW. That’s why you hire Bobby Petrino. Second, Casey Dick just became the first Razorback to post back to back 300+ yard passing games.

the AP recap is HERE!

ULM Gameday Trough

The Morning News previews the ULM game. AS360 makes a prediction. The Expats do Research. Want to pay $35 to watch the game? Here’s ordering info. The Morning News sits down with Freshman FS Elton Ford. Arkansas has self-reported 2 minor violations in the football program, beyond the Michael Smith’s Textbook violation, to the NCAA since March. Former Member of the Springdale Five, Andrew Norman is transferring back to Arkansas from Tulsa and will join the team as a walk-on. He’ll sit a year and have two years of eligibility remaining. I usually don’t do a lot of recruiting news, but, the hogs have commitments from 2 of ESPN’s top 10 Cornerbacks for this recruiting class.

Former Hog Jason Peters has ended his holdout and has reported to the Buffalo Bills. Darren McFadden says “It’s strictly Raiders and Razorbacks for me!“. One of the Expats will be in attendance for Monday Nights Raiders (D-Mac) Vs. Broncos (Hillis) matchup. He promises a full report.

Away from Football…
The Women’s Basketball Schedule has been Released. A pair of Tennis Hogs grab preseason rankings. Arkansas Volleyball loses a tight one at Georgia Tech. Arkansas Women’s Soccer improves to 3-1 on the season after shutting out Jacksonville St. 4-0. Finally, for the second time in as many seasons, Arkansas Razorback sophomore Catherine White won the 4K race at the Arkansas Dual.

Thursday Trough

Ronnie Brewer makes a gift to the Fulbright College. DMac is looking forward to his season opener against the Denver Broncos. Speaking of Denver, Peyton Hillis has been named their starting Fullback!

ULM is looming on the schedule (the game is ESPN’s pillow fight of the week!) so we’ve got predictions (Razorbloggers & Slophouse) and previews (Hog Blog & Razorbloggers). Here’s a look at Freshman WR Greg Childs. Willy Robinson says the defense is growing up and getting healed. The rain in Fayetteville (hello Gustav) hampers only the Special Teams Prep. FYI…ESPN’s Forde still doesn’t like Petrino. The Expats rank the SEC…the Razorbloggers rank everybody.

FTB:Need to Establish Running Game is Irony In The Extreme

This Week From The Bench…

I don’t know how they do it in Conference USA, but running the ball 13 times a game in the SEC is going to get this Razorback team beat a lot. In this instance, it led to poor clock management against an inferior opponent that had a decent rushing game and dictated clock all night. An inferior team can often keep a game close with a running attack and solid kicking game, and the Leathernecks did that all night.

Monday Trough

Arkansas Pitcher Stephen Richards was arrested for public intoxication. Here’s notes and audio from Bobby Petrino’s Sunday Teleconference and Monday’s Press Conference.

One of the Expats almost “died” when he first heard the score mid-way thru the WIU game. Here’s a report card on the game. The Razorbloggers have the Good, Bad, and Ugly. Whole Hog Sports looks back at the Off. and Def. line play. Another FYI to the local media: Houston Nutt is no longer coach…Let it go. The hogs are ranked 54th in CFN’s Rankings.

Looking forward…Petrino hopes the old cliche about the most improvement comes between weeks 1 and 2 is true. Also, the last time Louisiana-Monroe opened the season with trips to Auburn and Arkansas (2004) the Warhawks lost in a shutout to Auburn and was blown out the next week by the Hogs. Auburn shut them out again this week…Will history repeat itself?

The Women’s Soccer team defeated Oral Roberts to improve to 2-1 on the season. Finally, Former Hog Brett Goode has made the Packers as a long snapper.

Michael Smith Suspended

Coach Bobby Petrino has handed down a one game suspension to Arkansas Running Back Michael Smith for violating a NCAA rule regarding textbooks. He’ll serve the suspension during today’s game against Western Illinois. The university has self-reported the violation and it was termed a minor, secondary violation. This is the second time Smith has been suspended. That came last season after his arrest on forgery and theft by receiving for using a stolen credit card for two charges totaling less the $ 100. The charges were later dropped.
